Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, of Opening Ceremony fame, are keeping Kenzo in all the cool girls’ wardrobes.
THIS SEASON AT KENZO
An energetic array of prints and motifs that channel Kenzo’s feminine yet urban attitude came together in this season’s collection, which exuded a spirit of joie de vivre. Two-dimensional daisy prints with a ‘60s-esque aesthetic, ribbed knits with bold multicoloured stripes and sporty racing-style graphics defined a few of the genres seen on the runway. Keep an eye out for the floral midi dresses with cascading plissé ruffles – one, a sleeveless option, and the other a long-sleeved number.
THE KENZO STORY
Before finding success, Kenzo founder Kenzo Takada, on a limited budget, quenched his thirst to create by searching flea markets for fabrics. This resulted in boldly contrasting fabrics clashing together on a single garment – an aesthetic that would soon become synonymous with the now world-renowned It label. Under the dynamic direction of Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, those original archives of Takada’s work continue to inspire the Kenzo look today.
