A London-based New Yorker, designer Michael Halpern has become known for his extravagant silhouettes and vivid colors. Drawing from the '70s heyday of clubs like Studio 54, he uses couture techniques to create an eclectic range of show-stopping party pieces.
After graduating from Parsons School of Design in 2010, Michael Halpern worked as an assistant for J. Mendel and Oscar de la Renta before moving to London to complete his studies at Central Saint Martins. His MA collection, presented during London Fashion Week in 2016, immediately caught the attention of Donatella Versace, who enlisted him to consult for her atelier.
Halpern draws from the '70s heyday of clubs, such as New York-based Studio 54, to create a distinctive range of show-stopping silhouettes that present a contemporary approach to extravagance. Embellished minidresses and sequined jumpsuits, with graffiti motifs scattered throughout, are imagined in vivid hues that exude confidence.
