Jeans evolution: years of hard wear
Whether a fan of a slim-fit silhouette, or relaxed casual pairs, Mytheresa Men is your one-stop luxury destination for men’s designer jeans.
An essential piece in men's wardrobes, jeans were first produced in the French city of Nîmes in a cotton twill textile, made from denim or dungaree cloth.
Originally used by miners as workwear uniforms for their sturdy properties, jeans were popularized by Hollywood stars Marlon Brando and James Dean in the 1950’s, emerging as symbols of rebellion in youth subcultures.
While Levi Strauss & Co.'s 501® model remains the original blue jean, contemporary denim clothing include designs from Acne Studios with its Blå Konst collection, which means “blue art” in Swedish.
Focus on craft: Japanese denim
Renowned around the world, Japanese jeans showcase premium construction through the use of Selvedge techniques and traditional hand-dyeing processes.
While American and Japanese denim have drawn on each other throughout history, unlike its Western counterpart, Japanese jeans have honed in on the traditional hand-dyeing methods using indigo, and continued use of old Toyoda looms—giving jeans unique properties that keep them from fading over time, and result in a stiffer and more rugged look.
Tom Ford, who produces its jeans in Los Angeles, sources its denim from the looms of Japan to achieve its sturdier styles.
Discover luxury jeans for men using this perfected technique from the likes of Sacai and COMME DES GARÇONS HOMME, and look out for signature fading characteristics on Junya Watanabe’s straight-leg jeans.
The perfect menswear fit
Break into designer jeans for men with tapered lengths from Ami Paris, or show off cherished signs of wear and tear, with distressed casual styles from Amiri, and Givenchy for a worn-in easthetic. Meanwhile, for a slimmer silhouette, look no further than Saint Laurent's skinny styles to pair with blazer for a Rock and Roll edge.
For those who prefer a high-octane look, Dolce & Gabbana's jeans fuse Italian tailoring with modern elements, ideal for smart-casual dressing.
