Roy Lichtenstein remains one of the most coveted names in contemporary art, a full half-century since his work gained prominence in the 1960s. His famously witty comic strip-inspired paintings and depictions of ordinary objects — such as hot dogs and trash cans — defy traditional observations of good taste. Accompanied by 120 illustrations, 100 pieces of the artists most memorable works are presented in The Impossible Collection book, as selected by art historian Avis Berman. The iconic 'Whaam!' and 'Drowning Girl' paintings are explored, as are Lichtenstein's reinterpretations of paintings by Picasso, Matisse, and van Gogh alongside public commissions.
