The art of Italian craftsmanship: Tod's shoes

Where an icon began

Diego Della Valle established Tod's in 1978. Diego was born into a family of shoemakers and spent a vast majority of his childhood surrounded by skins and leathers in his father's workshop. While strolling the streets of New York, he was inspired by a Portuguese manufactured slipper that had rubber soles, he took the shoe back to Italy and redesigned the model.

This recreated shoe is the style that is now known to many as the Gommino. It was from then on that Tod's footwear was born and became favored by the likes of Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Steve McQueen. In 1997, the brand launched purses and leather goods and in 2006 went on to launch their first ready-to-wear collection.
