Stella McCartney tops everybody’s list of favourite designers, owing to an easy-to-love look, ever in line with the most contemporary understanding of femininity.
While last season political ideas were expressed via slogan, Stella McCartney’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection can be read through design alone. Upscale equestrian aesthetics were combined with pointy bra constructions for an impression that declared self-assurance and female power. Signature prints of horses appeared as did Savile Row-flavoured tailoring, from over-sized silhouettes to leg-baring coat dresses. For eveningwear, McCartney layered tulle over work trousers and knits for a look that gave femininity strength. “Faith and love inspire the collection,” McCartney explained — and the elevation we feel makes it clear the message has come through.
