The only chair designed by Jean Prouvé that is constructed entirely from wood, the Chaise Tout Bois partly came to be as a result of circumstance – wood was substituted for metal due to its scarcity during the 2nd World War. The contemporary chair is the conclusion of Prouvés' mission to provide extra strength at the transition point between the seat and backrest, where the load weight of a sitting person is the greatest.
