Combine romantic beauty with a ribbon of darkness and you’ve got Los Angeles label Rodarte. With an eye for cinematic storytelling and a strong couture mentality, the brand dreams up conceptual creations that blur the boundaries between fashion and art.
Sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy launched Rodarte from their parent's Pasadena kitchen in 2005 with no formal fashion experience. Culling inspiration from their favorite horror films, the pair indulged a deeply personal vision of femininity, resulting in ethereal garments with a slightly sinister element. Ruffles, lace and lush brocades are ornamented with beaded “blood,” draped hoods and black fringe throughout the label’s celebrity-packed look books and runway shows.
