Originally created to attract new clients when Warhol was working as a successful commercial artist, the handmade books featured unique drawings and texts covering a range of themes including cats, food, myths, shoes, boys and girls. A fun and engaging mix of styles and genres come to life in hand-drawn works like Bottom of My Garden —simultaneously a Warhol twist on a children’s book and a celebration of gay love —and Wild Raspberries, a spoof cookbook featuring adventurous recipes and illustrations. Joined by rarely seen photographs of the artist, inspirational ephemera, and commercial assignments, this book is at once a glimpse into the early creative process of a pop culture icon and a throwback to the halcyon days of the 1950s.
