Never one to follow a crowd and a cut above your average designer, Marc Jacobs is one of fashion’s foremost tastemakers.
After a controversial, now iconic grunge-inspired collection for Perry Ellis in 1992, Marc Jacobs set sail at the helm of his own ship, with stellar show after stellar show from 1994 onwards. The rest, as they say, is history: a lauded eponymous label, the equally popular diffusion line, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and 16 hugely successful years as creative director of Louis Vuitton’s women’s ready-to-wear. Marc Jacobs is, has been and will surely continue to be a highlight of New York Fashion Week season on season.
Marc Jacobs' show was one of the season's biggest, most talked-about spectacles. The collection is boldly all-American, reminiscent of old-world Hollywood glamour and largely red, white and blue. It is doused in glitz; sequins and metallic accents offer a sparkle that seems to applaud the movie star muses behind the pieces, as well as the women that will wear them. And what would a Marc Jacobs collection be without a subtle underscore of grunge? There's a taste of each of the designer's signatures here – something for everything!
